Each year data are collected about domestic violence through two main sources, the National Crime
Victimization Survey (NCVS) and the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR). In addition, there is a national census for
domestic violence service providers to provide data regarding service provision. Why are there so many
sources of data? Why do they differ? Does this help or hinder our understanding of the problem?
