Write a two-page response to statement: “It feels good, but charity is not enough to end poverty.” What will it take to give the poor a better chance for a decent life? Why is charity our “go-to” response to dealing with poverty? When is charity needed–and when is it inadequate, or even a smokescreen to hide the bigger changes that are needed–or given with ulterior motives? Are there situations when the poor are not the main ones who benefit from charity intended for them? Make clear references to the readings you have been doing, giving examples of when charity is an insufficient or even counterproductive response.
